Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and the best urea level on the content of Crude Fiber, Crude Fat, and TDN of corn straw. Corn straw was obtained from farmland in the Labuapi area, West Lombok. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 4 replications as follows P1 (Corn straw without ammoniation), P2 (Corn straw ammoniated with 2% urea), P3 (Corn straw ammoniated with 4% urea), P4 (Corn straw ammoniated with 6% urea). The incubation time of corn straw was 21 days and then the samples were analyzed proximate at the Laboratory of Animal Food Nutrition Science, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Mataram University. Parameters measured were crude fiber content, crude fat, and Total Digestible Nutrient. The results showed that the use of urea in ammoniation of corn straw had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the content of crude fiber, crude fat and TDN, with an average crude fiber content ranging from 24.05% - 25.91%, crude fat ranging from 1.09% - 2.65%, and Total Digestible Nutrient ranging from 54.60% - 60.91%. The conclusion of this study is that the best level of urea addition to ammoniated corn straw is 6% with the results of crude fiber content of 25.91%, crude fat 2.65% and Total Digestible Nutrient 60.91%.
